National Animal and Wildlife Month is a vibrant celebration of Sierra Leone’s incredible wildlife and natural heritage, happening all November long.

What started in 2022 as National Animal Week, celebrating the naming of the chimpanzee as Sierra Leone’s National Animal, has now evolved into a month of exciting events, bigger and better than ever before! This initiative, led by Tacugama, is all about bringing our communities together to shine a spotlight on environmental challenges while celebrating the beauty of our natural world.
Our first celebration was unforgettable – from children parading through the streets to the rhythm of Bubu music, to conservation experts and local communities uniting in a shared cause. The energy was electric, and it’s only growing!

This year, we’re partnering with the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs to bring you a packed lineup of activities every week. Imagine mobile film screenings, a sustainable crafts market, a fashion show, Art Night, and even the Salone Cup Cycling Competition! Each event is designed to raise awareness about conservation while celebrating Sierra Leone’s rich culture and breathtaking wildlife.

November is going to be packed with energy, fun, and purpose – and we’d love for you to be part of it! Reach out at info@tacugama.com or call us at +232 31 777 777 to find out more or get involved.

Together, let’s make this year’s celebration truly unforgettable!
