For 15 years, Tacugama received orphaned chimpanzees from across Sierra Leone. It became crucial to implement conservation measures. Tacugama lead a national chimpanzee census and estimated 5,500 wild chimpanzees in the country, making it home to the third-largest Western chimpanzee population.
